FROM CWA: Help Stop Anti-Gun Bills. Takes just a minute guys. Share with your hunting and fishing partners...

This week, the California State Legislature may consider a number of gun control bills that would adversely affect hunters and other sportsmen, including:
AB 1674 (Santiago) would prohibit the purchase of more than one long gun (e.g. shotgun or rifle) within a 30 day period.

AB 156 (McCarty) and SB 1235 (De Leon) would regulate the sale of ammunition similar to the way firearms are already regulated, including requiring: 1) a background check and payment of a fee for ammunition purchases and 2) those who sell ammunition to pay for an "ammunition vendor" license and meet other requirements. These bills also effectively ban Internet and mail order purchases of ammunition.

SB 880 (Hall) and AB 1135 (Levine) would revise the definition of an "assault weapon" to mean a semiautomatic centerfire rifle or a semiautomatic pistol that does not have a fixed magazine but has any one of specified attributes.

SB 894 (Jackson) would require every person under penalty of the law to report the theft or loss of a firearm he or she owns or possesses to a local law enforcement agency within 5 days of the time he or she knew or "reasonably should have known" that the firearm had been stolen or lost.

AB 1664 (Levine) would reclassify a semi-automatic rifle as an "assault weapon" if the ammunition feeding device can be readily removed from the firearm without disassembly of the firearm. (aka "bullet button" ban)
CWA believes these measures create further disincentives for the public to participate in hunting and recreational shooting by adding more bureaucratic red tape and costs for gun owners.

Because the bills would also effectively curtail the sale of firearms and ammunition, they would decrease federal Pittman-Robertson excise tax revenues that are the states' most important source of funding for wildlife conservation purposes. In California, these tax revenues are used primarily for the management of the Department of Fish and Wildlife's Type A and B Wildlife Areas, as well as for hunter education purposes.

Please contact your State Senator, Assembly Member and the Governor NOW to urge them to oppose these harmful bills. Thank you for your assistance.
