I will be completing my hunter education course on the 8th of Dec. I use archery only. Anyway I have been researching and found out that the closest hunting areas for me (Oceanside) are Palomar mt. and Agua tibia. I was just wondering how someone would access the area for hunting. I ordered some Cleveland NF maps but they have not come yet. I would like to start out with some small game such as rabbit. If anyone has any advice on how to access some good open areas where I could hunt with my longbow that would be great!!

Thanks again,

Jeremy

Don't know about the area.. But if you don't have small game heads yet check these out http://www.cabelas.com/product/Hunting/Archery/Broadheads-Points/Specialty-Broadheads-Field-Points|/pc/104791680/c/104693580/sc/104237280/i/103972680/Zwickey-Judo-Points-150-100-and-125-grain/744864.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fhunting-archery-broadheads-points-specialty-broadheads-field-points%2F_%2FN-1100030%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_103972680%3FWTz_l%3DUnknown%253Bcat104791680%253Bcat104693580%253Bcat104237280&WTz_l=Unknown%3Bcat104791680%3Bcat104693580%3Bcat104237280%3Bcat103972680

They work great.

Those maps should help you with trail names. Looks like there is a trail called Gomez Trail that goes through the wilderness area. Once you get the maps, compare them to the satellite website I told you about.

Pretty familiar with that side of the mountain. I wouldn't expect to find much upland game in the vertical stuff your'e asking about, find the areas of the national forest that are down towards the highway in flat terrain and sage choked, you will do better on the rabbits and such there. The national forest maps spell it out pretty clearly. If you need help pm me and I'll tell you what I know.
