Rut - Me worry?

Sounds like everyone was getting rained on, frozen or wind blown this morning. It was pouring rain when I reached my spot at 5:45; in fact it rained pretty hard during the whole drive up there. The ground was saturated and quiet, especially with the background of falling rain. The dirt roads and the paths were pretty washed out from the storm, but I didn't have to go far from my SUV.
I set out a decoy (3D target) with a scent bomb under a small tree in the open, about 30-35 yards from a big pine near the edge of the clearing. The rain let up as day broke. In the twilight I saw a group of four deer (two grown and two fawns) browsing acorns from under the oak trees as they made their way up the draw toward me. The wind was shifty and the rain was light at that point, but they didn't appear to pick up my scent. One of them had antlers but as the light came up I could see he was a very small forky or a spork. None of them seemed to take any notice of the scent or decoy about 50 yards from them. I decided to pass on the small buck. Would have been a long bow shot anyway, and I can't stalk quietly enough in my rain gear. They moved on, I did some calling with no response, and I decided to walk around a bit. My rain gear keeps me dry but it's Army surplus and way to noisy for still hunting with a bow, so I ditched it at the car.
As I worked my way down the slope, I bumped a couple of groups of does around 9am. They were not too alarmed though, and didn't move too far off. Since they were still moving I decided to set out some scent and do some calling. That drew one doe and fawn back through, apparently headed back to join the main group. No shooters seen today.
Will be back out tomorrow to the spot where I saw that randy buck last week. With scent and a decoy, if he shows up I may get I'm out in the open.
Have fun out there!

Cool report Don, had to wait in the truck for an hour before heading in the field this morning due to rain. Hope the big buck shows up for you!

I went out again this morning. I set up the decoy and scent about 20 yards from some decent cover (I don't use a blind), sprayed the decoy with scent killer and sprayed my tracks as I walked back to my position.
It rained hard on and off overnight, but it was clear and cool when I got to my spot. Day broke with a good breeze in my face and a nice chill in the air. The deer were slow to show up, but with the cloud cover and cooler temps, I wasn't too worried. When the wind shirted, I made some adjustments to my position and, wouldn't you know it, I look up to find three does looking like, "WTF?" I ignored them and kept about my business, moving more slowly. They settled down and moved off without raising too much of a riot.
Awhile later a lone buck came through. Good size, black body and white face, browsing mast on the ground. I'm ready as he passes a tree at 20 yards... Now I see that he's a spike. I wanted badly to get a pic for you guys because he came in to about 15 yards, but of course I had my bow in my hands. He never did see me. When he got downwind he started, looked up in the direction of the decoy, and moved off. I don't think he was quite able to compute the combination of scents he'd just picked up.
Half hour later a buck comes back in the other direction. I thought at first it was the knucklehead spike, because he was about the same size. But through my binos I saw he was a fork. He was too far for me to try with my bow. Unlike the spike, he was headed somewhere. Didn't appear spooked, but I think he was headed to his bedding area. I called as soon as he got into some cover, but he didn't come back.
After a little while longer I tried still hunting and glassed some hillsides where he and his Kim might be, but saw no activity at all.
This is the first time this season that I've seen lone bucks out and about. These two young'uns may not know what is up yet, but their behavior is changing with the oncoming rut.
