I have an old Remington-Springfield 1903-A3 that was sporterized in the mid 1970's (My guess). It is a very thin barrel and at the muzzle it is only about 1/2" diameter. I was told by my local gunsmith that he needs at least 3/4" to thread the barrel for a brake. Can anyone confirm this? He also wanted to charge me $250 just to thread it and put it back together. Seems high to me but I have no basis. I want to keep the aesthetics of the rifle and I have seen clamp on brakes for around $100 but they all looks like they came off of an M1 Abrams tank. Does anyone have any dealings with these clamp on brakes?

Re: Muzzle Brake Question

Lungpopper's response is correct . Badger Ordinance makes a legit clamp on break.
