New hunter north of Palm springs area

hello ya'll, I'm new to hunting in California. does anyone have any advise or know of good locations north of Palm springs area I believe it is D14 and D17 area, but i'm probably wrong. any advise is appreciate.
 
I'm a little north of Palm Springs as well (Yucca Valley) and new too! Finally got my license yesterday and looking to find people to get out with. I'd rather bow hunt but I do have a 6.8 SPC AR as well.
