Paso Robles

Hey all: my hunting partner is headed up to Paso Robles for a mid-week pig hunt. He's going solo and has only been in the area one time. I've already directed him to go to the National Forest office and pick up a map (per the guidance of a member here... thank you). He'll be hunting public land. Also told him to download the private/public map app.

If anyone has ever hunted the Paso Robles area or surrounding area and is willing to throw a bone, please send me a message. Otherwise, he already knows he's on his own. Not looking for your GPS coordinates but something like "West Side of blah blah blah mountains" would help if you have the knowledge. Otherwise, no harm no foul. Mid week, slow with work, and idle hands and the kid can do it, so why not!

I'm confused, he is hunting private land but needs Intel on where to hunt? Private land near paso is almost the Holy grail of hunting spots.

Typo. He's hunting public land.

Fort Hunter Liggett primitive weapons areas. If he gets bored, he can go behind the base and shoot squirrels (just don't do so on-base).

Does he need to use primitive weapons there? He has his 17HMR as well as his 223.

Public land hogs are pretty tough in that area.

Wait they are pretty tough in any area. His best bet is to go get that Bob Robb book California pig hubting I think. It's got maps of all the blm land in central cal.

For perspective I hunted that area hard for a couple years. Never saw one pig on public land. I did find some nice deer spots though.

I told him the same thing. Said he should hit up Neil at GSGS if he's going all the way up there.

FHL area 29. Smokepole or shotgun only. Leave the centerfire stuff out. It would be a federal offense if you got caught with cf in there.

Yes its legal. my advise is your better off hunting the archery specific area at the base. This weekend almost all of the training area are open .it will be good ... :)
