Shotgun gift

I am going to be doing some work for a friend this week. Instead of paying me he is gonna give me one of his shotguns. Do I need a bill of sale or any sort of paper work?

The gun will need to be transferred through a FFL unless it is C&R.

C&R means Curio Relic.

Fees are can vary but, correct me if I'm wrong, around $25 or so.
