This is for all those that hunt and fish Barrett, Lake Sutherland and El Cap. Tomorrow is the day for the open hearing.

All,

On May 6th at 9 AM, the Budget Committee will meet to discuss the City's FY 2021 budget review. Agenda Item 2 is Public Utilities and they will be discussing the closure of Barrett Lake and Lake Sutherland to all hunting for the FY-2021 period. I fear that once it is gone, it will be very hard to get it back, even after the pandemic is way in our rearview mirror. There will be public comment regarding this agenda item and I am encouraging each of you to call in and voice your opposition to ending hunting at both lakes for FY 2021. If we loose the hunting at Lake Sutherland, NWTF's junior turkey hunts are gone and we may never get it back. This is a big program for the San Diego NWTF Chapter and is where they have made most of their income for the year. Loosing the duck hunting season will be disastrous for the waterfowl hunters and will take away most if not all of the waterfowl hunting in San Diego County on public land and would reduce the income to the city since hunters pay for the opportunity to hunt the property.

Listed below are two items. The first will give you information on how to get your opposition read or posted into the record vie phone in testimony or written comment. The link at the bottom is the document prepared by the Public Utilities Department for the meetings agenda.

Done.
In my own words I expressed how stupid it is on their part to shoot the lakes to save a few bucks and how targeted the closures are planned since on both lakes we can hunt. None of the other lakes are affected by their budget cuts?
This is what I wrote:

"It is shocking that the only two lakes that were chosen to be closed all year are the only two lakes where San Diego outdoorsmen can fish and hunt. The hunters and fishermen pay their fees to the city for the right to use these lakes. It is not a big saving to stop these activities compared to the $1.2 billion budget available.
Lake Sutherland Hosts the annual National Wild Turkey Federation Spring Turkey Tune-up which brings the San Diego hunting community together for a great cause. San Diego Kids have the opportunity to be mentored on the sport with our Youth wild turkey hunt.
I am firmly opposed to the closure of Lake Sutherland and lake Barret to Fishing and hunting activities for the year 2020 and 2021.
Sincerely
F V"

We'll see if many of us do our part, the lakes should be maintained open t fishing and hunting.

I submitted comments and emailed last night but wasn’t able to watch or listen in today due to work. Any updates?
no updates but a little disappointing , 14 people called in to voice opinion against. PRETTY SAD. If we don't do a better job we are going to loose.
