Buddy and I went to one of our nearby ranges today just after lunch to stretch the legs on a couple of our rifles. This is DIY on public land close to home that only goes out to 1,000 yrds but has some nice targets. Before leaving, we grabbed a .223 for some more fun. I quickly dumped a 20 round clip at the closest steel target that was at 200yrds. Then went to pick up all our brass to head out and 20 seconds later a nice cow elk trots and meanders across the open area right through that 200yrd target. We just started laughing given all the noise we made and that it’s full on elk season. Had a similar scenario happen with some deer on another range. Always enlightening.
Immediately reached out to my close friend that has ~ 6 days already on a friend’s private property trying to get an elk this season and told him to just come to the public land range with us! Lot of scouting needed for successful hunting but sometimes you just need a little luck.
