Camping gear necessities

I recently purchased an MSR Hubba Hubba 2-person for the first time of my boy participating in a scouts hike-in overnighter last year. He was a little apprehensive about going without me being there. So I popped for the 2-man. But we found out they won't give'em credit towards the merit badges if he's in a tent with me, so I ended up in it solo and it was great! I had been using an REI Quarter-Dome 1-man tent. It's "alright". But your abs get worked a lot in that thing, as it's small enough you can't quite comfortably rise to seated with forelegs underneath of you. And condensation inside that tent can be problematic. You've got to make sure non of the gear you plan on wearing the next day touches against the sides of that REI Quarter Dome or you could wake up to partially wet gear. Likewise with keeping your weapon away from touching up against the sides of that tent.

In comparison, that Hubba Hubba fits everything inside for 1P and with plenty of room to spare. And it's kinda helpful too if you didn't pick the absolute flattest spot to set it up at, as the extra room allows you chance to slightly rotate your pad and bivvy to adjust for gravity and pitch of the floor a little bit, which has proven useful for better sleep.
I liked the MSR but they lack the warranty. The KUIU one man tent looks freakin rad but I want something for the wife and I camping as well so definitely want a 2 man.

From what Ive been reading If its both you and the wife youll need a 3 person tent to fit both of you and your gear. Go to the Adventure 16 down near Farimount Ave. Rent one before you buy it. They have some cool stuff there.

With the wife it’s not gonna be in crazy weather or crazy far out. Honestly it’s mostly gonna be pull the truck up and set the tent up next to it haha. So with her, gear shouldn’t be much of an issue. And if she’s out there the weather pry won’t be bad enough to not be able to just put gear outside.

Borrowed an MSR Hubba Hubba NX 2 man to try out in Utah. 95% sure it will be my next tent!
I really dig on the room inside that NX2! It's soo nice compared to that REI Quarterdome. The vestibule is nice and big too. Didn't have condensation problems in that NX2. It just takes up more space in the pack is all. But my pack is big so it's more down to how heavy I'm comfortable with and how far I plan to go in. If it's warm, I'm fine with the Quarterdome. If the hike-in is downhill, meaning the hike-out in uphill... I'll want the Quarterdome. But I'm sure that's just one of those things where having a consistent training regimen makes ya not care anymore. Been way too lazy lately, and this kinda weather makes all the old crashes hurt..and makes me sound like a bowl of rice krispies walkin' down the hallway at night. :(

Ended up going with the Nemo Dagger 2p. Thanks for all the advice and help I got through everyone and thanks Lungpopper for pointing out Nemo. I was stuck between the Hornet and dagger, but figured for the occasions I was with the wife the hornet woulda been a bit tight. Also, because I was able to get it from REI I got it for 277 out the door instead of the 400 dollar price tag.
