Sea duck hunting

You might run into the problem of local beach cities laws against the discharge of firearms within city limits. The city limits can actually extend up to a couple of miles offshore depending on the city.

Some thing to look into . Perhaps up north ! On some remote coastline . I knew a guy who hunted ducks at marina Del Rey and Newport bay many years ago before they were harbors .

Quit talking about ilovesprig ! He is getting a little long in the tooth and I’m pretty sure he did hunt those places;)

Cal & I used to do it all the time...The last time (1986)...The POlice surrounded us...After about an hour, they decided they couldn't tell who's jurisdiction we were in...Fish cop showed up and said we were legal as far as he was concerned...The rest just left...lol

ps...That's Imperial Beach in the background.

I plan to drive up to El cpitan or of hope ranch and set decoys in the kelp and anchor the boat and just wait.
Only law that I know of is that you cant be in city limits. I wont be , you have to be 150 yards from any house on the beach
and the boat cant be under the power of the engine.
City limits end at the low tide of the beach then it is state waters for 3 miles then federal.
I plan to do this later in the season when I start seeing the surf scoters again.

Not true, look up the SB county code definition for “public beach” it extends into the ocean below the high tide line.

As long as you know you're in a good area then hope you knock 'um dead. I just wouldn't want anybody to get any of their body parts in the proverbial wringer just because they didn't know. Post a report when you get back.
