Catalina Island Deer hunting

Would be some great views for sure. Whats interesting is it didn’t seem like a D zone tag was needed in addition to their tag, just the conservancy membership.

deer hunt during the day, shark fish at night, cant ask for much more than that. Will have to bucket list this one.

Could always hunt with the island outfitter there for a mere 3800 or 2500 depending on 2 or 3 hunt...what a deal!!!

You will turn your ca deer tag in for the plm tag.

I’d only hunt Catalina if they brought some big bucks from out of state over to populate the island.
They used to have some big old Kaibab Mule Deer on Santa Rosa Island and when it became part of the Channel Islands Parks (don't remember if the owners sold it or if the govt took it or what) they decided to go in there and helicopter shoot them all. Before the island was taken over the owners had a hunting program for them. Catalina used to have pigs and goats too. They managed to eliminate them on Catalina also. An interesting table on the bottom of this page showing what "invasive" species they have and what has been eliminated. http://www.californiaislands.net/eradication Funny thing is they don't mention goats on Catalina (they call it Santa Catalina, its "official" name on the table) one way or the other and I know they had them at one time because I had a friend, (long deceased), that went ashore from his boat on a do it yourself bow hunt (quite a while back, don't know if there were any laws covering that one way or the other back then) and brought back a nice goat that he had mounted.

I accompanied a friend on the Catalina deer hunt years ago. They were transplanted from the Sierras. It was a slaughter gun hunt. Everyone shot at least one deer. Biggest was maybe 115". Proof that there were pigs and goats on Catalina... Ed F

used to be 300 bucks to go to the island and slaughter as many goats and two pigs :) ahhh the gold old days Till they killed them all.. Dr bill bushing can lick my sack. Enviro freaks want to return cat to its pristine condition but yet they live in avalon and pollute one of the most contaminated bays in the state. Do as i say not as i do!!!!!!!!!!!

when i taught scuba i used to tell him to F off every weekend i was at the dive park. Honest im not bitter :) ..........much

your exactly right. So sad they shot those big bucks if anything they could have made more money with raffle tickets off of the island from those bucks and then still managed them. Plus they could have had a action tag for one or two....but The state doesn’t think that way. I know yourright about goats Catalina island my brother is law use to tell me stories how they would go over there and hunt them with Bows.

I think you need to know a resident or go with an outfitter now. The flies out there can give the deer some sort of infection that makes them stupid or something if I remember.

For non guided Catalina hunts, did you hike it or can you bring an ebike? Did you use a local butcher out there or just quarter it up and throw it in some coolers with ice to get it home? Thanks
