It's Christmas list time.. looking to upgrade my stove to something other than my bulky Coleman one, and I've got my eye on a Jetboil system (watching too much Steve Rinella vids). I'm looking at the Flash and the MiniMo.. but wanted to get everyone's take on what u all use. Planning to use it on 2-5 day backpack hunts, so light/budget minded is what I'm going for. Just cooking Mountain House dinners and coffee for myself. Thx

I use the flash & like it. I just use the Folger's coffee bag's & Mountains house Dinner's every year in D-6. The mountain house takes up more room the the Jet boil. I'm still running on my first tank for 3 years now. It doesn't use a lot of fuel.

I’ve had the MiniMo for 4 years now. I’ve used it for a 6 day backcountry hunt, and local hunts were I spend 1-2 nights in the hills 3-4 times a season,
Most of the time I only boil water for a freeze dried meal for dinner, a few times I’ve boiled water for a lunch.(waste of water to have to clean it) Just bought a new gas canister this year.
The advantage if the jet boil over other brands is how fast it boils water. That translates to saved fuel so you don’t have to carry or buy as much fuel.
My vote is the MiniMo but I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the jet-boils.

I have both the flash and mini mo. Both are very similar but the major disadvantage of mini mo over the flash is the metal handle. Every time I use the system I seem to brush up against the exposed metal which I know is primarily user error. However, hand burns has never been an issue with the flash, so it gets the advantage.

Another advantage is the 100gm gas can fits inside the whole flash system. The mini mo can fit the 230gm can inside but the burner part will not fit into one package. Even the 100gm can won't fit nicely. So for packing I bring the small can and for the trail head I use the 230gm can.

Best use of the jetboil for me is to boil a tiny bit of water and dunk a small rag to clean my face with. Its perfect before sleep and also waking up in morning.

Favorite "go to" meal, water with top ramen and can of vienna sausage. Next time I'm going to try the tongue.

here is an article that's very good at explaining cooking temp vs boiling temps.
I have been out of the circuit so I am not really one to claim which is better but thought this would help.
I do believe the the jetboil would be a superior product just for the wind factor. but it's easy to build a simple wind break. hell i could make a rocket stove very easily but it takes work.

I usually camp and back pack with the wife and at least one child so i use the bigger one. Ive been a mountaineer my whole life and used just about everything over the years. MSR stoves like the whiperlite international were my favorite. BUT know after owning the bigger jet boil im sold. If i was going to be out in the mountains of other countries again id go back to a multi fuel liquid stove but for everything i do now the big jet boil is awsome. when its not in my back pack its behind my truck seat with some extra food and coffee for the wife.

The 100gm can and the stove will fit in the MiniMo.
Put them together and turn them sideways. I’d get a pic for you but it’s already packed and loaded for my Idaho trip.

Recommend the micro mo. Flash is great and reliable but bigger than you need. I have both. Go to rei for a side by side comparison.
