It is an insane rush. I have only taken two bucks this way that have actually drawn in from the grunt. Once they are convinced you are a rival it is all over. I took him at 150 yds but I think I could have drawn him into bow range as long as the wind was blowing down the canyon. These so cal muleys are really a beautuful sub species of deer up close. His neck was swelled up and he was really a healthy deer. Packing out going through a meadow we jumped three different groups of does. He was probably staging and waiting for night to go down and do his thing with the does. I had glassed this area in the morning and seen nothing.Beautiful buck! That's got to be a rush having him come in on your grunts. Was this the one that got the haircut?
No.... the 3x3 I gave a haircut I only seen once more and no sign of him ever since. He was a wider 3x3. Same frame on the rack but wide.Beautiful buck! That's got to be a rush having him come in on your grunts. Was this the one that got the haircut?
Honestly I beleive these calls were originally designed for the white tail hunter. I know it is a white tail hunting thing to grunt but the calls I buy really dont specify a species. Not sure if there is even a significant difference in a white tail grunting versus a mule deer? This last week of the season is usually good for calling.Nice buck. Are you using a grunt call for whitetails ?
