What did you shoot your first deer with ? I shot my first deer with a.

First deer: Ruger M77 mkii in 30-06. My first rifle. Still have it. Unfortunately, I didn't see the spikes until I got to it. I thought I was filling my G13 tag. Couldn't put my d16 tag on it, either. Warden confiscated it, and wrote me a ticket. Oh well. I believe that was in 2003. First legal...

    Bedding compound

Marine Tex and Devcon seem to be the most popular ones to use for bedding. I've read many, many posts about JB Weld, and haven't seen anything describing issues with it. Having bedded a couple rifles with JB Weld, and a couple with Devcon, I can say that Devcon is harder when it dries, and is...

    What's your max?

My longest shot on game to date is a little over 200 yards, from a sitting position. I hope to increase that significantly in the coming years. Eventually, I'd like to be able to shoot consistently at 1000, and take ethical shots on game out to 800.

    Wild game sausages

I spent Friday evening and most of the day Saturday grinding, mixing, and stuffing four varieties of sausages (over 30 lbs worth). Flavors include venison/bacon bratwurst, Tom's venison/pork sausage, venison/pork chorizo, and pheasant/goose/duck hunter-style sausage. I like the bratwurst the...

    Wyoming Whitetails

A friend and I left the day after Thanksgiving for Wyoming for a doe/fawn hunt. We drove straight through, dealing with some dicey road and weather conditions, but as the week went on, it got nicer and nicer. Our plan was to hunt public lands and see if we could fill 3 tags, or more if there was...

    Question for Kuiu users

I usually buy the cheapest gear that will meet my requirements. The number 1 killer of my gear is barbed wire. The number 2 killer is age/use/washing. Therefore, if a $4 synthetic long-sleeved camo shirt from WalMart meets my needs, I buy 4 of them. If I find camo BDUs online for under $20/pair...

Feral pigeons illegal to shoot or capture.......here we go again

A couple guys recently got in contact with Lt. Mike Ference from DFW regarding this. His reply was: ""rock doves" (Columba Livia) are the feral progeny of domesticated pigeons, and their take is not regulated by the Fish and Game Code." Back in 2014, I contacted the head warden, and he...

Lion following you. What would you do????

If throwing sticks and rocks and shouting at it didn't scare it off, then carefully approaching it in a menacing manner with a stick in hand might be my approach. I like what you did, and I'm glad it worked. I think I would only run at it if I had a knife or other stabbing weapon- if it didn't...

savage long range out of the box

The thread is titled: "savage long range out of the box" It would seem that Savage is claiming that they are bringing a rifle to market that has long range accuracy with NO MODS. Short of a GAP or AI or GunWerks or other semi-custom gun, who is marketing a production long range gun? Let's...
