Well, time has been of the essence for me this year with a newborn daughter and my wife in the final year of getting her PhD so I have only been able to get out for 3 days. What a 3 days it has been though....
Saturday of the NWTF Mentored Youth Hunt. The video is pretty self explanatory but after a slow first hour or two we called this bird off the hill in the background and watched him fly down to our setup.
Sunday of the NWTF Mentored Youth hunt was also exceptional. Similar story but there was a lot more action despite the toms still being henned up. We were within 200 yards of a massive flock for over 2 hours never presenting an opportunity or getting them into our setup. We did manage to call in a traveling tom that was 2 steps from getting shot... until he saw the big flock and turned just enough not to get shot before joining them. After that, we decided to reposition and try to get in front of them. It worked like a charm. Two toms were just curious enough to come look at our calling since we were in their general path.
Finally, my bird on opener. After trying to get my buddy on him with the bow to no avail, i let the shotgun eat.
