    Maximizing my scouting time

The worst ride was down into Barker valley and coming back up with a gobbler and all the gear. Took me nearly most of the day to hump it back while pushing that damn heavy bike.

    Public area gobblers

Here's what appears to be a jake on my friends property all the way down in southern campo about a rocks throw distance from the border. He's lived there over 10 years and this is the first turkey sighting on his property. Like Steve said, these birds travel! .

    Maximizing my scouting time

Back in the day when I used to exclusively hunt public land, I use a mountain bike to get into some of the areas where it was a long walk. It can be a useful tool.

    Turkey hunting clothing

Since I managed to lose a few extra unneeded pounds, I started cleaning out some of my camo clothing that is too big for me. I have a long sleeve shirt and cargo pants combo in my favorite turkey hunting pattern. I used this set of Missy Oak Obsession camo set for one season. It's a XL size...

    Turkey Loads & Patterns

For those looking to purchase turkey loads, make sure to not purchase Hevishot Triple Beard. Although it is from Hevishot, it is their more affordable lead alternative. I sent NBK some shot suggestions from Hevi shot so hopefully he'll have some in stock at Fine Firearms soon. .

    Public area gobblers

Absolutely Fred, I've seen bearded hens taken and heard someone once tell me that bearded hens can't lay eggs so they need to be taken out. Contrary to some beliefes, Bearded hens do lay eggs as beards are just modified feathers. Beards and feathers do not play a roll in the reproductive organs.

    Public area gobblers

took a hike out this afternoon with my kid and found some really good turkey sign on public land. Found a lot of feeding signs, gobbler droppings, strut marks, and heard some gobbles as birds went up to roost. I saw a few jakes there so I really hope they make it through to become longbbeards...

    Turkey

Sorry to get back to you late. Someone I know at the base saw a small flock of birds there a month ago. I know several years ago there were a decent number of turkeys there. I would check with the base warden and see if there's any good spots at pendalton. Also get a Cleveland national forest...

    NWTF Spring Turkey Tune-Up 2017

Haha you're too nice Steve. I was beat yesterday so I wasn't on my A game. It was a amazing turn out and all the volunteers did an amazing job. I wish I could do a longer segment for calling and hunting techniques but honored to be there to share the little info I can provide. I used to "guide"...

    Turkey

It's really sad how it went from several toms on every roost tree to not hearing a single gobble. I hope the turkeys come back to the number they used to be, Fred.

    Turkey

I can't wait till turkey season. Seeing a lot more birds on public land this year. Especially in areas I haven't seen them in the last few years. Went out looking for pigs and found one flock of 23 hens and a mile down the trail, I saw a mixed group of 15 jakes and tons together. Three of them...

    Pigs

Josh I haven't got a whole lot on my cams lately. I stopped putting cameras on public land after two of mine got stolen last year. I will say a certain old property on MCC still has a couple left. The most recent sign I found was three weeks ago. The dogs do pretty much all the work in finding...
