I have the same vest and woodaven call. If You see me wearing it don’t shoot me! Seriously we’ll keep an eye out. I have a couple primos box calls and a few slates I don’t use anymore. If we get close to the season and you haven’t replaced them - message me and I’ll give you a few.
I haven’t got one on the opener for the 12 years I’ve been trying, 48 years is 4x that! Maybe next year I’ll skip it. Who actually gets drawn opening day? Maybe they should do a cross match by political party and see what turns up? Maybe you had to donate at least $500 to democrats or something...
I started duck hunting in 2006 and have put in for the opener every year since. I’ve never been drawn on an opener. The res system has certainly diminished my enthusiasm for duck hunting.
I got three Toms this year, all MCC birds. First time I’ve ever limited in a season. I put half the effort I did last year where I got zero birds...so, I guess sometimes things even out over successive seasons. The last few seasons I’ve put the effort in. My prior 10 seasons or so I didn’t give...
Sorry I haven’t been on in a while. The answer for rifle was pretty spot on. If you want to load steel shotshells you’ll need a MEC steelmaster press - about 300$ plus components, maybe $200 to start. Look online at Connie’s components. They sell a lot of the non toxic shot stuff. I’m not...
That’s why for the last three years every time I was in Walmart I bought ammo with major hoarding in mind. The UPS was dropping stuff from midway every week....I have years worth now, and I reload. The plan is to never have to buy ammo in this state ever again. I have enough upland steel to last...
You should learn how to reload rifle ammo. Honestly it’s pretty easy once you get set up and it can cut the cost of good copper ammo like Barnes down to about 75 cents a round. And if you’re only reloading for one or two calibers easier still. Plus you can still order all components via internet...
This doesn’t make too much sense. You can still sell less than 500 rounds per month and you have to transfer through an ammo vendor but otherwise it’s just like a gun sale.
55 now. Although the past two years I’ve noticed a whole lot more aches and pains than I used to have, a lot more repetitive stress injuries. I’ve read that the average age hunters hang it up is 64. Hopefully that won’t be me. I try to stay in good shape between seasons.
I play this game in 6 different states, but I use a tag service because it’s enough to drive you nuts. They all have different rules, fees and deadlines. But for CA I just buy a D16 OTC because I know I can get it and can always hunt local deer.
That’s a heck of a story. Good for him. I own a couple of Benelli M2s. One time I “clicked”on a big Tom with my 12, but he didn’t come back. I was sick. Turns out after a number of years of duck hunting etc. the main recoil spring was failing. I had It replaced with a surefire aftermarket...
Got to give you credit for being able to handle the recoil of a 7mm in a gun that light. I had one in .308 and I didn’t even like that in the finnlight. I own 4 Sako 85s but they are heavier models, 2 in .30-06, one in .270 and a 7mm-08. I’ve decided to stay with standard, non-Magnum calibers...
Here is a mountain quail. They’re bigger than the gambles or valley, about 11” tall, , and usually above 4000 feet. They are rarer and more secretive that valleys. I finally got my first couple of shots at one this year after years of trying to bag one but came up empty
