    Out glassing for deer

Longbow, Good to hear your getting out glassing. I always feel like a kid in a candy shop when I’m out glassing buck country. Have you ever tried putting your 10s on a tripod. It’s way cheaper than buying 15s and you will find way more game if you’ve never tried it. It’s amazing what you can...

    Glassing seat

Cool little seat. Do what you gotta do to see game IMO. For me I use the Klymit V Seat. It’s inflatable so only downside is you have to make a little noise blowing it up but not too bad. It can roll up and fit in my pocket. I got mine on camofire.com for like 6$.

    Hello from Montana 2018

Trig, Awesome photos. Looks like a hunters dream out there. Montana’s definitely on my bucket list. Love the pic of that stud 4x! Almost as nice as the Utah buck I saw earlier this year

Hunting muleys on public land, so. Cal

Longbow, Great write up! I love the amount of action on the big game forum this season. Hopefully we can keep it rolling. Looks like that article was written by Robby Denning. That guy is a the king of big mule deer. He’s killed tons of Boon and Crockett mule deer and for new or seasoned hunters...

    Vortex 18X56 vs 20X56

Blacktail slayer, If money is an issue the Vortex Viper spotting scopes are also really solid. Just something to consider. You won’t be disappointed with the swaro 15s. Good 15s are far more valuable than a spotting scope IMO. If it’s a big one you’ll be able to tell with the 15s. If you’re...

    Vortex 18X56 vs 20X56

Longbow hit the nail on the head with this one. To help with your bino search, I used the vortex vulture Hd 10x56 for 3 seasons before I broke them:sob:. This year I got to use the vulture 15x56 and I couldn’t believe the loss of clarity going from the 10x to the 15x. I also got to look through...

    Vortex 18X56 vs 20X56

Tons of great optics info on this thead! Blacktail Slayer, To help with your question about the spotter... I’ve looked through the razor HD spotting scopes and they’re serious quality glass for the money. I personally use Viper 10x50 binoculars and a vortex 20-60x60 spotter. Love the...

    A clean miss

Great right up! Sorry to hear that you missed. Talk about an adrenaline rush. Keep at it cause your obviously in good buck country. What kind of range finder you using? If it doesn't have angle compensation (ex: TBR, ARC, and others depending on brand) than that should be your next purchase...

    Mature Bucks disappear

Lungpopper, You hit the nail on the head with that one. It all depends on when the does go in heat. You can have a million does in your area and if a doe goes into heat early a mile away they'll leave. That being said once your does go in to heat the same bucks or other bucks may come back to...

Congrats! Don't you just love those Ruger American rifles. For an inexpensive rifle they sure are accurate.

    Mature Bucks disappear

Ppbets, From my experience deer are very patternable in the summer for many reason. First and foremost there are no hunting seasons that is time of year so very few people are in the woods. Secondly in the summer the bucks are in velvet and in bachelor groups. During this phase their life only...

    Utah Zion general season deer

Baboltin, Very cool unit. I’ve been through it a few times. I’ve seen the most deer in the northern part of the unit and the north east corner of the unit. Northern part of the unit just south of cedar breaks is good. All around Navajo lake is pretty cool and holds deer. This unit borders the...

    AZ OTC Archery

Ppbets, If I was going in January I’d go south in search of rutting coues. Try the units along the border near Nogales. 35b, 36b, 34a are all good units. 20a can be cool too. That time of year you can hunt javelina and deer if you play your cards right. Josh

    AZ OTC Archery

Well I just got back a couple of days ago from my AZ archery deer trip. Didn’t know the area so the first couple of days were spend hiking miles and miles glassing. Finally found the deer on day 3 (saw a few in the first 2 days but not what we were after). Day 3 we hunted higher elevation and...
