    Ya the ears had me thinking lion, but the fur looks dang near black in the pictures, especially on the second picture. Could be the shadows making it look darker. Doesn't seem like the deer have moved off with the cat around, still tons of them on the camera. .

    Anyone have any idea what this is ?? Wish it would have walked by further out. Looks too dark to be a coyote or mt lion, which was on the camera as well. For reference, the camera is about 3ft off the ground. .

    http://www.nwtf.org/events You may have to look further north or go south for the birds. There was a discussion on here about turkeys in other SoCal National Forests and there doesn't seem to be anything other than in San Diego.

    I would check out the Eberlestock and Kuiu packs as well. For the rangefinder I use an older Nikon laser 800, works like a champ. You cant go wrong with either the leupold or vortex you listed.

    Sounds like a great day! I would have definitely taken that buck too. As for the people on that Facebook group, other hunters can be our own worst enemy sometimes...sad.

    Nice Whitetail! I would have to agree with you, I think CA hunters have an advantage hunting some other states. 1.5/2 miles is a pretty common hike in for us here.
