The only public land you can target shoot on around here in San Diego is BLM land. However, all San Diego county BLM land is closed for target shooting right now due to fire danger. Imperial county is open still last time I checked. Check the maps or call them to be sure.

That's ridiculous that people steal. I remember seeing a warden show where they caught someone that stole a tree stand...didn't go to well for the scumbag. Post up the pics of him, someone on here might have had something of there's stolen as well by this moron and could make a better case...

Steele Peak is now permanently closed for target shooting, unfortunately. Not sure if that applies to pellet guns though?

Those are some pretty good sized gophers! Haven't seen a big one in a while.

BLM doesn't post those, it's usually residents nearby that don't want people on the BLM land. I've seen them before in other areas.

Only way I know is to either know someone with it or rent them at a range.

I second what snake charmer says, great spot for trail cams! I would keep that location to yourself as well.

I would recommend picking up a Cleveland Natl. Forest map. The spots are there, just need to work to find them. It's tough on public land here. My brothers and I have been scouting for 2 years, and we almost got one so far this yr.

I have Onx maps and I carry a GPS. I use the GPS for navigating and use Onx to verify that I am indeed on public land if I am in doubt.
