Scouting for deer in the desert but found a nice ram

That's an awesome ram. I really want to get a chance at one of those one of these days. There is a ram unlimited hunt in Montana I have been thinking about trying sometime. Need to buy a 44 first though, the place is infested with grizzlies I guess.

    Thinking about bears?

They are really cool. Especially since your options are so wide open as to where and how you want to hunt tthem. Thanks for the comment. Good luck this season!

    Thinking about bears?

Considering hunting bear up north. Heard there are some opportunities in big Bear but wondering if it would be more worth it to go to x12 or other xzones for better chances and to get a look at the country since next yr I should be able to draw a deer hunt up there. What are your guys thoughts...

    Got it done today

Sunday morning I got out to glass before light. instantly saw a doe about 1000 yards away.. ten min later saw some horns so that was my cue and started making the accent. got to about 400-500yrds of the buck and 4 does popped out of nowhere a 100yrds from me and i couldn't move. As the does were...

    Nice buck got a haircut

Nice!! 243 is a nice round. Much less drop than my 308. Im having fun with it tho. For next yr i might give reloading a try. Looks like it could save me some dough. Agree with the keeping steady part. Not always convienent to go prone. And throw in some buck fever and its really hard to keep...

    Nice buck got a haircut

So i figured it out at the range saturday... it was my ammo.. i was shooting federal which out of my gun shot fine at 100yrds but at 200 it was barely hitting paper or the backer. Very inconsistant. I bought hornady to resight in, got it dialed 1" high at 100 and what do you know dead nuts at...

    Nice buck got a haircut

I dont have a very sophisticated range finder. Thanks for the recommendation i will definitally look more into that. I calculated the firing distance just now and it is somewhere around 160yrds. With that calc i should of still hit dead on assuming i didnt shank it.

    Nice buck got a haircut

Very good points xjon. My scope i had left full power since shooting at range and had forgotten to dial it down. I was shooting off my pack that was leaning on a rock. Im thinking the misses where likely due to two major things adrenaline and inexperience shooting at steep angles in this case...

    Nice buck got a haircut

Where i shot him i searched and searched got on hands and knees searching for anything. Looked for blood on the trails he could of taken. The area i shot at him in is steep and so thick it gets intense walking through. But man, your making me second guess myself. I would of thought with a 180g...
