D13 hunters willing to take a newb?

This book helped me tremendously.. Hunting Open-Country Mule Deer by Dwight Schuh. Get out in the field and look for deer sign. Best of luck and enjoy the journey/process in finding your quarry. Can’t emphasize it enough, get out there. OnX is great resource..

    First Deer Tag - D14

You’ll enjoy it! Lots of great info. I use 10x42 on a tripod also, which are very good also. Spend as much time out in the field. That will always be the answer to success.

    First Deer Tag - D14

Read “Open Country” by Dwight Schuh Highly recommend glassing off of different vantage points. Sun at your back, bino’s on tripod and stay behind your binoculars and glass from first light and until last light. I will usually pick a vantage point and stay there until 12-2pm. Depending on what...

    budget optics

Do not buy a $200 spotting scope for hunting.. maybe for short shots on the range. Absolutely not for hunting. My 15x vultures have served me way better than a $800 spotting scope that I had bought and then sold within a year. Depending on the country you’re hunting, I would strongly suggest...

    A22 2018-19 season

I haven't killed anything yet, but I am seeing lots of deer. I thought maybe it would be neat to put up thread to record my sightings. This year I started to keep a dairy of my sightings. 9/2/18 12 does and 2 fawns 3 coyotes High 90s 9/3/18 3 does and 1 fawn 1 coyote and 1 fox High 90s 9/9/18...

    How's the A22 going.

A couple weekends ago, I stalked within 40 yards of a doe with no shot. I'll be out again this weekend. I also haven't seen any bucks yet. Deer on Camp Pendelton were starting to rut this last weekend.

    High Power Bino's for hunting

I am very happy with my vultures. Keep in mind these 15's are entry level. They're don't have great edge to edge clarity, but overall very happy. I would highly suggest a bog-pod tripod adapter. I plan on keeping these until I can buy swaro's. Check this article out...

    High Power Bino's for hunting

I run 10s and 15s on tripod also. My 15s are the Vortex Vulture. Fairly inexpensive, but has served me very well. I can glass all day with minimal breaks. I freaking Love my setup. My only gripe is I wish someone made 15x60s. I used to run a vanguard 82hd spotter. The spotter was okay, but...

First weekend deer (not seeing many)

I found everything that "the deer guy" said to be true. Sunday I glassed up 11 does and a doe with 2 fawns. Monday I found 3 does and one fawn. I couldn't believe there wasn't more fawns. I also got to watch one fox and 4 coytoes as well. A few of the does I was watching re-bedded, fed every...

    San Diego Noob

First off thank you for your service. Welcome to the hunting realm of SoCal. I just started hunting d16 last year. I found a couple of bucks, but I wasn't able to capitalize. I would highly suggest Dwigh Schuh book "Hunting Open-Country Mule Deer"
