We did, dad and buddy were a second to slow on getting a shot at a buck. I could’ve popped a dink fork walking an old road but let him slide. I want a fork like @ilovesprig

Don’t forget wind chill, I shot a bull opening weekend of 2nd rifle in 2019 in -30 to -40 windchill, absolutely brutal.

I know of one nice fork that was shot, the guy that shot it is a member here but I can't remember his name, hopefully he comes by and posts a picture of it, I took a few for him.

Never did, I passed a spork on Monday but it was the only buck I saw. That wasn’t us camped by the spring, never saw the GW either. Headed back to Colorado in the morning.

I know that rut (seriously) I’ll be there Saturday evening through Wednesday. I wouldn’t mind meeting up with the buck that left that track myself.

I’m driving out from Colorado Springs at 4 am Friday, I’ll be at deer camp with Dad and friends at 7 pm that night, I’ll be there for 4 days and then head back to Colorado. I’ve made it out there 4 of the last 6 seasons, passed up multiple bucks every year looking for a better than average buck...

That’s the truth, once you get the first one down it tends to get much easier and more consistent.

It's been a problem for decades out there, my cousin was attacked in 1988 at age 13 by a pitbull and a german shepard, he killed them both at under 30 yards and closing at a run. I was circled at least 5 dogs about 20 years ago, growling and bluff charging, 3 of them didn't make it off the hill...

Truth right here. Every buck I’ve killed in D16/19 has been between 9 am to 3 pm except for 1 at 7 am or so. In 2017/18/19 and 2021 I passed up legal bucks between 9 and 3. Hunt ALL day.

That really sucks, I caught my first catfish in one of those canals when I was 6. California sucks the fun out of everything.

If it were just me that’s exact what I would do but my nephews are meatheads plus they have a friend going and my daughter will probably want to go which is why I was thinking the pier, I can keep them corralled easier there. I grew up surf fishing there and the lagoon but it’s been 30 years...

Anybody have any insight they can give me on fishing the pier? I'm in Carlsbad the next couple days visiting family and my nephews want to go fishing and that is probably the best place for us to go. I've got a bit of gear I brought with me, I can buy what I need but I haven't been there since I...
