Thanks for the info Kellen. I have heard it's a tough zone. I plan to get some miles covered once the season opens. I'm E-scouting now to find general areas I want to target. Plan is to checkout some spots and put up some cams.
Very nice buck! I hope I can be as successful this season. Congrats...
Looks like I will be checking out a new area this season.
1 D14 = N
2 D19 = Y
Going to put in for the 16 as my second tag in July.
Anybody got tips for the 19 zone? Is the terrain similar to the 16? Are the access roads mainly 4x4?
Good luck out there this season!
Good call. That same road has been open for years. Never seen the gate locked until last weekend. There was also no trespassing sign posted but the land owners actual gate he has had up for years is clearly posted. I will do some research. I want to make sure I'm staying legal
Thank you! I thought that was the case. Assumed the land owners got tired of hunters driving down that road and locked a gate. I put my tracker on to show I never stopped in their private land just to be safe. Made the hike in worse than it needed to be but it didn't stop me
If a road heading towards private property has a locked gate but shows as public land on OnX, can you bypass the gate and find a way around to walk through? The actual private land is roughly 3 miles away from the gate.
Just a heads up It's trout season right now. Most lakes are stocking. You could probably find an Ugly Stick rod/reel combo for like $50 at Walmart or basspro. Shakespeare had a decent micro combo for a little cheaper that's a great starter.
I have a buddy visiting from out of town who wants to go to San J. Was curious if anyone knows if the sweat line is open for this Friday? I can't seem to find out any information on what days the drawings are for vacant spots.
Any info is appreciated.
Thanks!
Hey Mason,
Welcome to SCH. This site contributes a lot of information that you can pick from. There are great folk here that also are willing to give some good advice/insight. Main thing I learned is you have to get boots on the ground. Escouting is good but you have to put yourself in the areas...
If your going anywhere that has readily available water, ponds/rivers/streams/lakes, this is all you need my friend. I carry a katadyn and 2 of these and they get by great. They are also good for carrying whiskey!
So
This is the first year I saw a decent amount in 1 area. I was shocked at the amount of gun shots I heard this season. I thought it had something to do with the pandemic last year. Saw my first 3 point this year too. Didn't know they existed in public 16 until now.
