    Love hunting in the snow

Buddy and I had a great outing today. As we were approaching a new area that I’ve been meaning to poke around for quail the last couple of years, we ran into a tight group of 25 pheasants. Nice surprise but didn’t get a shot. Then off to see if this spot was holding quail. Being able to see...

    Interfering with Other People’s Hunts

That’s a bummer. I and everyone I know wouldn’t park next to another hunter and then hunt that same spot. Frustrating but that’s public land hunting. Agree w/YETI that animals sometimes act differently than we would think.

    Took this pics in D16

Interesting. So....DFG (uhg, "wildlife") dropped off another undesirable from an LA or San Bernardino in a "relocation" exercise?

Went to a long(ish) range today – a little humor

Buddy and I went to one of our nearby ranges today just after lunch to stretch the legs on a couple of our rifles. This is DIY on public land close to home that only goes out to 1,000 yrds but has some nice targets. Before leaving, we grabbed a .223 for some more fun. I quickly dumped a 20 round...

    GPS Collar recommendations

Highly recommend one of the Garmin Alpha series that come with a handheld controller that contains a screen display. It's both an e collar and shows position of your dog. Can alert you when on the dog is on point. Mine has always been very reliable. Had a tri tonics back in the day before that...

    New to SCH Forum

Welcome. There are good folks on this forum and lots of good info. Sound like you have already been immersed in San Diego county turkey hunting. If you haven’t attended, there is (or at least used to be) an annual turkey seminar held each spring at Lake Henshaw which is quite informative. Great...

THREE AMIGOS! 3 custom builds from FINE FIREARMS…

Thanks, that is good info. I’m going to look at trying Hammer bullets in the future. Have never cycled any. For my proof barrel, my Hornady CX is in the solid core copper 150gr in 7mm (in 280 ackley improved). One bullet did very well on an elk with a quick kill. Just need to validate that a...

    Mountain lion scream

That's crazy. I've seen a few mountain lions while hunting but never heard the scream. Nerving night for sure. Stay safe!

THREE AMIGOS! 3 custom builds from FINE FIREARMS…

Those are 3 serious setups!! Looks like you are running proof research barrels on all of them. Not inquiring on your load recipes, but in terms of bullets, do you find any similarities in what they like for accuracy? I have one rifle with a proof barrel on it. I’ve run a few different bullets...

    Jig strike sinks

Wow, really scary stuff. Have seen Jig Strike many times offshore. My wife and I were on our boat on the inside of San Clemente Island Monday heading north. If I recall correctly, the Coast Guard put out a couple of broadcasts of a partially submerged boat west of SCI. Maybe that was the...

Input on Sig Cross bolt action folding stock models

Looking for input and insight (good or bad) on anyone that owns or has owned one of their versions in this Sig Cross series. Only version I’m not considering is the PRS model due to barrel length and overall weight. As background, I have all the required rifles and calibers I need for hunting...

    Side Arms

Good that you are thinking of safety and the family. I’ve carried a side arm in a holster while hunting upland / big game and fishing for 2 decades. Switched in recent years to a full-size 10mm in a kenai kydex chest holster setup. The chest holster is a game changer for me personally in terms...

    Trail cams

Great question but wow so many scenarios. I’ve got a few but they seem to fit different needs. Thoughts…are the cams a long distance/travel time from your home? Is it hunting season and you want real time data? Is it your private land and you want real time data on poachers? Countless other...

Ideal hot weather clothing for hunting

Hard to disagree with the responses. I’ve replaced/upgraded most of my clothing and accessories the last few years to Kuiu and its all great gear. If asking for pants, my favorite warm weather pants is for sure the Under Armour Ridge Reaper Raider. Extremely comfortable, lightweight, stretch...
