7.7 jap or 7.7x58? please help

So a buddy of mine just bought a arisaka type 99 7.7 jap. Only problem is that we cant figure out the ammo to buy. Theres 7.7 jap and 7.7x58. When u google it, it comes up as the same rifle ???! Can anybody help? Thanks for reading and i hope to hear from u guys soon.

I would check out "cheaperthandirt.com" or sportsmansguide.com for ammo they always got some weird stuff on there
