Got out yesterday to the local lake and it was an absolute zoo! I had my blind and decoys set the morning before and on Saturday morning I had two people within 75 yards on both sides of me. One group of hunters next to me even decided to stick their bright white boat right next to their blind causing every duck coming into the cove to flare . but that's public hunting area for ya. So that being said I ended the day with one little GW teal.
Well I was able to get out again this morning and it was a night and day difference. The lake allows the hunting club members to hunt on sundays where the public cannot. Because of that it was a whopping 3 groups hunting the entire lake. The first hour was pretty quiet until the winds picked up and the first pair to come cupping in was a pair of mallards. Two shots and I was able to get the green head down for my lab Hana to retrieve. I then dozed off until Hana started to whine to let me know that she see's ducks. A flock of pintails circled my layouts and committed to come down. Three shots later I had two sprigs hit the ground. About an hour and a half later I had a big flock of wigeon come down out of nowhere and I was able to knock two out of that flock. It died down for awhile and so I decided to stretch my legs a little. After I got back into the layout, a group of GW teal came jetting by and I managed to knock one out after three shots. Just as I decided to call it quits, three wigeon came lazily strolling by and got lucky #7
I haven't hunted Hana in over a year but she retrieved every bird flawlessly.
