on the mountain
well finally got out. headed up the tall mountains, very little deer tracks went to three locations , bone dry. it was very bad, never seen the mountains this bad, good bad news lots and lots of predator tracks, Mountain lion, Bob Cat, and coyotes every where. The old knees had a tough time climbing the mounts this year. with all the gear I had to quit have way across the mountain. but with time heal up little by little. out of the three locations one area had some movement some of deer tracks, but no deer moving during the day. over all good day out. it was great to get into the woods. main reason going out was to take a new younger partner out, this is his first year I had a little trouble. but as my logo say's , never give up, work them legs, I expect to fully recover just takes time.

Well I screwed the pooch. I have no pics. Saw three deer buck and two doe, shot low at 55 yards. Dam it.. well morning still young.

Feeling good up on the mountain, beautiful morning. Ran into to deer into my spot.buck was standing broad side . But it stood still. And it had busted me. So no shot.

Spot and stock most of morning and afternoon.. a big doe busted me as I was walking a ridge. No time for shot. Ended the day seeing 2 bucks. And 3 doe. Had barely time to shoot, deer are very skittish. Public land. Lucky to see deer to day. Knees did well. Quiver broke today on compound bow. Headed back to the truck did a quick fix with self tapping screws. Headed back out. Done at 2 PM.

Way to keep at it LBH2! Glad you got some hunt time in. Great to hear you got a shot at one. Always love that surge of adrenaline.

thank you brother, Out of the short season for me, I was blessed to still walk the mountains. even thou I missed yesterday the rush of seeing wild deer , is still there. my eyes, and body may be tired, but my will power to continue is strong. I still have the last season for my A22 tag. so I am not out yet. and the area is good.

Rooting for you! I have to look into this "archery only" tags. Especially since I got a bow. I was very excited to start my season early but got irritated by the "so far, don't even think about it" mentality that I had to switch to rifle. Just wasn't prepared for the handicap against other hunters. Hoping next year I can commit to one archery only tag.

no worries , next year for me will be the start for rifle hunting again, just don't know if it will be d-16 or an other area up north. got Invited to hunt the sierras next year. I need to get my gear in shape and practice those long shots up to 500 yards. but as always I like to stay with less than 200 yards. for a clean kill. I have to admit bow hunting is tough. especially on public land. being my reflex has slowed down a bit may is not be helping.
I will be upgrading my bow gear next year. new sight, new quiver, maybe a restring, and bow vibration stabilizers. I believe when I took the shot yesterday, the doe reacted to the sound of the bow, so my shot may have been right on but she jump as soon as she heard the bow shot.
and do to the distance she was able to react fast enough. that's my theory.
any way that's my excuse but there is no excuse. I need to eliminate all sound when I shoot. I want my bow quiet.

I like that area, so I will be setting a deer stand there and hopefully is won't get stolen or damaged by the ANTI's.....
I shopping for more game cameras to set up at other areas.
