I usually head up to the X9a area for some fall fly fishing. been going since i was 4, so that area is very special. however this year is going to be different. I bought a bear tag and I know theres bear in the area. read up n some regs and cant wait to give this a shot.

has anyone attempted a bow bear hunt on foot?
little insight will help, seems like any another type of hunting just curious to see if anyone is as crazy as i am.

Hi Sdhunt
Have a fun, safe hunt. My neighbor hunts bear up there. But does with a rifle.
Hopefully you are going up with a buddy.
Have a great time.

i dont know anyone crazy enough to chase aster a bear with me yet
im going to pick up some bear mace and just watch my 6.
figured if i can make out of Afghanistan, i can make it out of the woods if i give myself space and dont miss.
i think situational awareness and confidence will keep me safe.
i honestly think i found my void in solo bow bear hunting.

Hi Sdhunt
I highly recommend a safety beacon.
If you do have issues, I know you won't. But at a touch of button.
Help would be on the way.
Have a save hunt and thank you for your service. I will anticipate your return with a bear rug.

Not a lot of bear on the east side of the sierras. There’s a lot more on the west side. If you are serious about getting after one look up the bear kill statistics and you will get a better idea of what units to hunt.
I know of a guy who got one in X9a with a rifle in 2016 it was a monster bear. It was super high country above tree line where you wouldn’t think to look. Keep in mind rifle deer season will be open from 9/15-10/8.
We had bear tags in X9a last year but never saw a bear. Good luck. If you have a rifle bring it no shame in my game.

Actually my neighbor uses horses to ride up. I was invited last year but did not make it. He got a bear rug.
