One of the kids (Josh) that I've been taking hunting & fishing over the years comes over yesterday afternoon. I hadn't seen him in quite some time (he just got on the Escondido Fire Dept, lots of hours)......After scouting deer in the local hills, he says let's go fishing tomorrow.....I assume he means his and his friends Tanners boat.....Nope, he wants to go out on a 3/4 day boat.....Nothing available.....So he starts looking at the 1/2 day boats.....Mind you, I haven't been on a cattle boat for probably 50 years (uncle ran a boat out of San Pedro).....He finds out a boat out of Fisherman's Landing (Dolphin) has only 22 people on it.....So he says, lets go...... ;D
We get down there at 6:00 am and the big boats are coming in with tons of tuna.....Great smells and sights.....When we get to the mouth of San Diego Bay, we turn south and head for Mexican border.....Really calm seas and after the chum started hitting the water. The barracuda & bass started bouncing on the deck......I threw nothing but swim baits the entire morning.....Somebody might have caught more barries, but it couldn't have been many more.....Fighting the "logs" on light bass gear was a blast.....Only saw 1 yellowtail caught and it was a firecracker.
Anyway, Josh and I had a great time......Well worth the 40 bucks......Even on a cattle boat........ :lol:
ps.....The crew on the Dolphin were really great kids and were very helpful too many...... 10
