I know there was a recent post on coolers but for those who have been fortunate enough to harvest an elk or big game animal, what size coolers did you use or wish you used?

I have an elk tag for this fall and just recently heard on a podcast where they suggested 2 - 75qt coolers and a 65gt cooler for and Elk..they went with multiple smaller ones because they could distribute more ice to meat vs using larger coolers.. I have yet to harvest a big game animal so don't know what I might need as far as size in coolers.

Cheers!

I typically prefer to take ~2x 110qt size for an elk if I am going to bring them home quartered (a rear and front quarter + other meat per cooler). This year I'll be taking my new Grizzly 165 and my igloo 110 and possibly my igloo 65 (in case I get an opportunity to fill my bear tag on my hunt).

Couple years ago I had my cow elk (~350 lb on the hoof) professionally butchered and it filled every inch of my 110 qt cooler. It was flash frozen so no ice was needed.
