Hello everyone. Im getting a D16 tag for this seasons deer hunt. I have never hunted in the area and don't personally know anyone that has. Can someone point me in the right direction? What general areas should I be looking to hunt? I am not looking for your secret spots or anything close to it just the most general regions where I should start. Any tips on hunting D16 are welcomed. Thank you in advance.

Kevin.......Welcome to SCH

The most common answer your going to get is get some good maps of the county......Cleveland National Forest & BLM land is common in San Diego Co......We also have San Felipe Wildlife Area that deer hunting is allowed.

After you get those maps. Get yourself an app for your phone or GPS that will define the boundaries better than the maps......Others will help you with this.

There is really more land to glass, walk, & hunt than you can possibly go too.....Just two days ago, I got into an area that had deer and I had never been there before (BLM) in south county.

Good luck.......

x2. Use the maps and aerial photos to look for habitat, then go hiking to look for sign.

Said sign.................... ;)

Couple tips I can offer that are helping me so far ( I'm new to SoCal ) I got a CNF map ( I got the book version) and it's been very helpful. I also got an OnXmap chip for my Garmin 62s and it also really helps with public vs private property. Other than that, that's all I got. Been out hiking and getting sun burned. Love scouting so far around here. Sure beats all the layers and Gortex id be wearing back home so.. Good luck out there.
