Hello Guys,
I'll try and make it short n sweet. After last months archery season/scouting season ended for me I had a good feeling about my hunting spot for this years rifle season, I try a new spot every year to keep the pressure down on the animals. Anyways...1 month, around 1200 miles on the truck, many miles on my boots, countless weekends waking up at 2 a.m. it all came together yesterday. It happened pretty quick I was tagged out by 7:40 a.m.. I woke up at 4ish a.m. and headed out to my section with 3 more hunters from my group, we had a starting game plan and it worked out pretty good. I took the shot on a young forky and connected it was about 50 yards away and walking towards me. He dropped on the spot. In my zone success rate is only 9% and not scoring last year I told myself I would take the meat this year and not hold back.
I want to thanks many on this forum for helping out a fellow hunter, your tips and suggestions helped me score a buck! THANK YOU. It took me a good portion of today to process the meat. I have a foodsaver and I put it to the test today, it survived The game warden estimated my buck around 150lbs. It was a very healthy buck he had a crew of around 8 does with him.
Gear used and this is for the new guys/gals getting there gear together, it can be done guys!!. I used my dad Sears Ted Willams 30-06 he gave me before he passed, Nikon scope 4x15x50 buckmaster, $100 Halo range finder, Nikon binos and ammo/camo from walmitty, $30.00 boots from big 5.
I guess now I can chase roosters next weekend
Sorry about sideways pics not sure what's up
