I could see the buck got hit and it looked like a good first shot, but it jumped up and stood broadside for me, I couldn't resist. plus it was the last few minutes of daylight and I didn't want to spend a long time blood trailing in the dark.
Nothing wrong with that, once they have a bullet in them keep shooting until they’re on the ground.

Dude I typically shoot until they are down no shame in my game.
Thinking about it I shot my first buck 3 times all were kill shots but I was so jacked and there was no way that buck was getting away. The last shot he stopped under an oak and looked back at me like what the heck and I gave him the hatchet throat punch. Never forget that buck all alone in the middle of nowhere hooting and hollering all by myself.

And then he said "hatchet throat punch".. and alas... a new hunting phrase was born!
