Im glad to hear most of you are seeing deer. I hiked up 3 miles today lugging my huge 100mm spotting scope and tripod to glass across the canyon looking at my hunt area and saw nothing moving. All the way until I couldn't see anymore then I had to hike down with that scope. I even brought my camera for my scope so I could take a pic of anything, but no luck. I thought about chucking that scope over the ridge but that would be littering. AAARRGH!

Sorry, Just had to vent. Thanks

That's big country.........You may want to narrow your glassing area.........

Went out last night myself.....Deer rich area and saw few deer until right at dark.

I've been seeing lots of doe and lots of sign, a couple of young bucks but the big boys are still shy of daylight.

Do not get discouraged. Stick to your spots. Like some have been saying deer are out at grey light. A lot of times those bucks don't come out at all during the day.

When hunting pressured public land 2 things come to mind.

1. That spot in your pic looks great. Lots of room to glass and make some clear long shots if needed. Once people start pushing the deer around the bucks make mistakes.

2. Any sign of rut activity and the bucks once again will make mistakes.

Better to be lucky than good. Time in the field is what kills deer.

I live amongst deer and lots of really good bucks. I will go weeks between seeing certain bucks and that is even glassing almost daily. They don't get big from standing in the open.

Some days they are out other days they aren't.
Besides the rut, before and after a cold/storm front is always good to get them moving.......this fall I have a feeling it's going to be much colder than last year with more rain. I need to check the farmers almanac

I did see some squat yesterday.....But like I said, it was late.....Bachelor group of 3 forkies seen too.

I think I know your spot. Have you thought about ******, Trail behind ********, ** You can look down two sides from that ridge at a couple water sources. I walk my MTB up the first really steep incline then peddle in with scope, binos and tripod. I am starting to see some movement and even caught sight of a nice buck. Some times people ask what I am doing, to which I reply "just waiting for the senator." (Taxi Driver)

Posts edited to keep 500 guys from stomping on your spots

Please use on x maps and other resources to make sure you are on good ground, some trails are not 100% in the nf and crossing a county park with a weapon can get you in mucho trouble

Sorry, to post a location. The problem with the Trabuco District is there are only a few trails into certain areas, the trail I mentioned is about 8 mi long one way, and its just a jumping off point like most of the roads and trails. Most people know all the trails and roads, but very few are willing to tromp a trail in 3 or 4 mi to glass. The most I have see people walking is a maybe a mile off a road, that doesn't seem to cut it in D15 Trabuco CNF, thus it leads to low percentages out of this area

I don't use onXmaps, just the FS atlas; but I do use the my Spot emergency gps to mark points and grid out trails/water/housing.

I know where some deer are. They are in the mountains by some bushes and I think there was some dirt there. That is about as descriptive as I get. And I almost never share panorama pictures. There will be a lot of trolls on this site in the next month looking for hunting spots. You can never be to careful or paranoid.

just for fun...technically wouldn't said trolls not visit this area because he talked about hiking far in and not seeing shit? :)

No newbie sticky on this stuff...or know one reads it....:eyes:

7)......Internet stuff......The internet is a wonderful thing, but it can have it's drawbacks......Don't post pictures of spots with telling info, unless you don't care about others using it (refer to #1). Don't post or say what particular blind site or location your hunting, despite being a public hunting area.....For example, don't say your hunting San Jacinto WA and shot a limit in W12......Type in generalities and use the PM key.
