I had pretty good couple of days water fowling in the last week. Started out last weekend down in Yuma with a buddy who has never hunted. I wanted to get him into some dove and quail since it was his first day out and normally a relatively easy shoot for me down there. I hunted with him from sunrise to sunset on Sat and we didn't get a single bird. I was exhausted it literally was the worst day I have had down there. I am guessing the big storm over Christmas pushed the dove south and I just didn't get into any quail. So come Sunday morning I was determined to get him a kill we started the morning calling Yote and had one come in with in the first 5 minutes on the first set he made me at about 100 out and we didn't get a shot. So finally I said screw it lets go to some of my duck spots and see what we can do. Sure enough we had 5 birds down in about an hour and he was stoked. You would have loved to see him neck deep in toolies finding his first kill.

This morning I got to go on my first snow goose hunt with a few customers. Because the field was so soaked we couldn't do lay out blind and could only shoot fly bye's. But it was a great hunt considering the circumstances and weather conditions it poured most the morning we were covered in mud thank God for waders. Between the 6 of us we managed to down 15 birds. I brought two of them to my Royal Ranger group tonight to clean and eat with all the boys. They all had seconds. It was neat to see there faces watching a bird get cleaned most of them have never experienced anything but grocery store chicken.

Drew,

Way to stay after those ducks.....Weird year.....Congrats on the "Waveys".....And a huge thumbs up on working with those kids. Always love seeing their collective faces when they actually clean something, cook it, then eat it....... 8)

Great job teaching those boys where their food comes from! That's "free range fowl" alright.
