After saying I was going to listen to @stikbrandon ridge2ridge podcast for a while, I finally started the last few weeks. I am telling all you guys, its a must listen to.
It contains a lot of truth / knowledge for guys just starting out about how critical attitude / determination / perseverance is when hunting So Cal. Yes, some guys get dandy bucks their first time out but that is extremely rare. So don't beat yourself up when things are not going your way. Instead be constantly learning and enjoying the process of learning how to hunt and adapt. I think Steven Rinella says it best, something along the lines of "even though my thoughts are that of a pessimist, my actions are that of an optimist."
Plus after failures, close calls, and then finally sealing the deal is significantly more rewarding than shooting a buck opening morning without scouting. That final success is more valuable because you paid significantly more time and effort for it.
Don't give up, get after it and good luck!
