The coloration makes me wonder. Reddish tint and the black and white tail, maybe Red Diamondback? Or just a southern pacific rattlesnake? Not the greatest picture. What do you guys think.

Looks like a Red Diamond to me: http://www.californiaherps.com/snakes/pages/c.ruber.html

I looked it up in a reptile book and that's what it looked like to me. I've seen a few big ones before, none that small. The big ones are really red with the stand out black and white tail.

the one to be careful about is the green mojave. starting to invade the san diego county , according a LEO i spoke with.
there's no anti venom for it. I Am for sure I seen one in pine valley.

Not exactly true. There is an antivenom for Mojave Greens. I grew up catching them all the time, although they are very, very dangerous. Wouldn't recommend it but it was fun putting them in a cage with my kingsnakes. Biggest baddest rattler around running from a Kingsnake. There wasn't a lot to do in Ridgecrest during the summers, weird I know.

crofab works on the evil greenies and has for sometime.

Mojave's are native to the high desert, seriously doubt there are any in SD county. Folks see a snake with green coloration and they think its a mojave when more than likely its a southern. Southerns are seen in many different colors so its easy to confuse.

Snakecharmer

Ya I bet it's easy to mistake one for the other.
I was repeating what the LEO said.
She was the one who said the snakes have being seen in Mission Hills, and other areas.
and that there was no Anti venom for it. maybe what she meant was limited Anti Venom. other words availability.
the rattler I saw in pine valley was piss off and it stood it's ground. it was greenish in appearance.
so I I am not sure. I don't F___ with snakes. I just shoot them. most of the time I leave them alone.

I do know it's the second most dangerous snake in the Americas.
