My backyard is on the flyway for the ravens heading to the roost at sunset, all near the Miramar dump.
Over the years they fly best from spring to late fall and I love fucking with them. I use a crow call, a E-1 Crow and lightly grunt with a raven cadence into it......

I use to use the RR and I'd get lucky once in awhile but now I call like a hungry scout on a McDonald's bag then when they get close I change to a downed raven all from the couch!

It wasn't like this last year, a Covid change for sure.

They now circle over and over and over again loooooking and only give up just before dark.

One day we can hunt them again......the flock in my area is 1k plus strong and very smart and pack oriented for sure.

Enjoy wildlife even in the city!

Mark,

That's a "murder" crows...Ravens are very solidary...Rarely see them more than a pair or more.
Steve,... so the once I see down here mostly flying solo or a pair but still far apart are Ravens most likely?

We have pair of Ravens that Cruse a round our home. They are a pair. They actually keep the Hawks away Frome our chickens.

But the crows love junk food.
Had one at a rest stop hanging around the truck. He wanted my hotdogs.
Thru a big juicy night crawler he ignored It.

These are ravens not crows

Not, if there's 100's...You probably know that ravens are larger, the size of a Red-tailed Hawk. Ravens often travel in pairs, while crows are seen in larger groups. Also, watch the bird's tail as it flies overhead. The crow's tail feathers are basically the same length, so when the bird spreads its tail, it opens like a fan

They are ravens me & Zola have had our hands/paws on them over the years.
I only see them get together on the way to their roost in the evening. It's kind of funny to watch. You'll see one on the ground bitching then a small group pops up then a few more then they take flight together and fly over my house, unless the barbecue is going. Don't know why they don't like that. Lol
I hunted crows in the '80s these are Ravens.
Like I said they gather for the evening roost, in the am I see ones & twos with an occasional third fucking with the other two, but never a flock flying together.

I also have seem them pack hunt rabbits in the am.
A couple will surround a couple rabbits on the ground, then one goes in for the attack, they try to surround one, meanwhile one or two will be in the low limbs in the trees and they fly down to block the rabbit towards the gang on the ground. I've seen some incredible jumping back flips by the rabbits that have injured the ravens when it all goes down.....if that happens the ravens start screaming, in less than a minute about 5 more show up and get in on the screaming. Never seen a rabbit go down but they run off into the bush so who knows. But I have seen some injured ravens that don't look to good.

I'll get some pictures of them on the ground

"There is no hunting season for ravens. They are protected by the federal Migratory Bird Treaty Act " An admission against one's own interest is entirely admissible in court.

Mark, you just ratted yourself out.
