New to the forum & have a question. Is it legal to carry a handgun while dove hunting. While scouting a couple of areas for dove I saw 4 snakes I know 3 were rattlers not sure about the other one. I would like to carry my .22 loaded with shot shells that way I don't have to use the shotgun. I wouldn't shot them unless necessary. There seems to be a lot of snakes this year.

Could be a can of worms if checked by a Ca. DFG agent...

I would leave the 22 at home. There are a lot of people out on the opener and a 22 goes a long way. 22 shot shells don't have that much shot in that little cap and are not always enough to kill a snake in one shot. I always use the 12 gage and take there head clean off. Done.

Thanks for info. I guess I'll leave .22 home and use the 20 Ga if I needed. Good hunting to everybody
