This is a quote from a retired GW........so be careful.......thank god he's retired!!

"Go get one Dan! We for sure have a bunch here in SoCal. The problem is those lazy-*** bruins don't bed down high enough up the hillsides. Remember that you have to be further out than 400 yards from anything that could be bait to a bear, which means dang near anything. Peoples houses have trash cans and pet food bowls. Forestry camps have trash bins. Parking areas have trash bins. I sincerely wish you a good hunt, but I wrote a number of citations on bear hunters who thought that as long as they weren't putting anything out, the area wasn't baited. Uh, nope."

Here's the reg for bait.......

(e) Bait: No feed, bait or other materials capable of attracting a bear shall be placed or used for the purpose of taking or pursuing a bear. No bear shall be taken over such bait. No person may take a bear within a 400-yard radius of a garbage dump or bait.

What a bunch of BS. As it says no one shall place anything as bait. So If the hunter did not put the trash out how is he responsible for it and how is that bait. What a crock of sh....... Sounds like just another way to get some money out of a citation. Smdh

So the way I understand this.
If F&G starts doing circles out and away from your dead bear and finds a candy wrapper or soda can within 400 yards they are going to fine you? Even the lunch in your backpack could be considered "BAIT"

always carry the regs with you so you can educate the GW when needed........some just go overboard

Great point. Whenever dealing with LE, it's important to know the letter of the law and be able to show where you got your info. Keeps 'em honest.
