Hello everybody,
My name is Al. I live in Riverside. I found this website about a week ago while cruising the internet. I've been lurking the forum ever since and I can tell you all are a cool group of people. Anyway after reading a ton of posts I feel obligated to register/introduce myself.
My dad taught me to hunt when I was a kid. If it were not for him I would never be into fishing/hunting/hiking/outdoors. So respect must be paid...
Little about me:
I have an academic/professional background in Fisheries. Worked for USFS & NPS(doing wildlife/fisheries work), Salmonid Hatchery manager, CSU system as an instructor and in the private sector as an Ecology Instructor/Dive Master. Been deer hunting since I was legal, upland game also, and fishing since as long as I can remember. I grew up hunting D14/D19 and spent a couple of years in the B zones while away at college. Open country hunting is WAY different than hunting redwoods with 6 foot tall ferns!
Anyway I filled my D19 tag opening Monday with a sporkie that had an eleven inch forked tine and a burly, spiraled, funny looking spike. He had definitely been around the block a few times. I know, a sporkie right? Long story short:I had INCREDIBLE luck last year(right place, right time) but just couldn't deliver on my end. I know, I'm lame. So I decided to lift the curse with a 340 yard shot.
I'm in my early 30's and not too many guys in my generation are into hunting or fishing. We're a dying breed you could say. So I'm hoping to meet some good people and learn a thing or two along the way. I would really like to learn to hunt predators and turkey. From a weeks' worth of lurking it looks like I'm in the right place to start asking for help...I hope.
