Hey guys I'm new to SoCal and was noticing it's almost impossible to get a CCW permit to carry my pistol and it appears that CA is not an Open carry state. So if I want to go on a solo backpack trip how do I leagally carry my pistol for personal protection? I definitely don't want to be in the back country un-armed. Thanks !

welcome to calif..... land of free and home to many lawyers needed to understand our insane gun laws. Google search is your friend here. you can read for days about hunting and CCW. Yes you can and no you cant CCW while out and about. while backpacking only you can NOT CCW on public land, No clue about open carry. I am never just on a hike... something is always open and i do not hike in the national parks : :D

Yea im always "hunting" coyote when im hiking and i always have my open carry side arm on my belt or on m y pack. Just make sure hunting is legal where your hiking, have your license and ID on you and if you put on a jacket make sure your still open carry is visible. you will then never have a problem with any one.
