Went to the San Diego Safari park with the wife and kids and saw a few bucks and does freeloading from the black rhino feeder. I need to hunt that place but it may upset the tree huggers!
Great pic.......As your aware there's a number of tremendous bucks inside the park.......The story goes that these bucks (like the one on the right) came off the Guejito Ranch years ago.......And bucks from the Guejito were bucks that were transplanted from the Kaibab......Obviously, those transplanted deer bred with our local Pacific Hybrids.......The transplant was back in the 40's, I was told.......The story also goes that Kaibab deer were put into Cuyamaca (now the state park).....The larger bucks up there have a very unique look.......If I can get the picture from a friend.......He has a pic of a 42" wide buck killed in San Diego Co......I think it was circa 1940 something.......No doubt one of the transplanted bucks.
Great info ilovespring and yes I have seen a ton of the hybrids at the park my wife was a tour guide a few years ago and I would take the kids on her tour and count at least 20 native deer.
My grandfather used to tell me the stories of deer hunting (legally) on Cuyamaca park back in the day. He even told me about a ranger who was shot and killed by a drunk deer hunter at the Stone wall peak camp grounds in the early 50s.
