IV quick fish

After a few days of not working I had to get out and clear the mind. Went to my minnow spot for some live bait and hit the smaller canals branching off of highline canal. Most of the fish I caught were stoned with red eyes.. lol jk. They put up a good fight man. I did catch 1 LMB on a flylined redhorse minnow, he hit 17" long. Most dinks but beats being home on the couch. I went solo to practice social distancing protocol.

Those all look like small mouth to me.

What do you mean by rock bass? I do not think they have rock bass in the IV. Maybe green sunfish?

Lower Kern river has a fair number of them. Even caught a few myself. When I grew up in southern Wis. we had lots of them. Real fighters for their size.

Arent the IV canals fed by the Colorado River? Or connected some how? The Colorado River is loaded with SMB. SMB have been in the IV canals for a long time.

I have caught SMB at Diamond Valley Lake too.

Lots of places with smallies….Arrowhead Lake, Lake Isabella, lower Kern, Owens River, Colorado River chain of lakes, and of course, the IV...Just to name a few.

Looks to me to be a red eye bass ( coosa) we have lots up here in the upper cosumnes river in Eldorado county

Lower Colorado River holds some pretty good Smallmouth.
