Kodiak Island Alaska 2017

IMG_2803.jpg IMG_2882.PNG IMG_2732.JPG IMG_2734.JPG IMG_2802.PNG FullSizeRender.jpg IMG_2833.PNG IMG_2852.PNG Bucket list hunt for me and one step closer to my deer slam. My good friend Mike and I spent 6 of a 9 days on the island before having to get picked up early due to severe weather. We risked being stuck and missing our flight home if we gambled and stayed. This hunt tested me to my limits both mentally and physically. We endured rain every day and super hard rain for 28 hours straight. Winds up to 70mph which created 100ft tall wind spouts on the lake we camped at which resulted in loosing my tent to the Kodiak Winds. We did get an opportunity to fish and took full advantage of it. Enjoy the pics my friends!

Outstanding!!! Thanks for sharing your adventure.

That had to be a blast. Did you guys fish in the afternoons or dedicate days to fishing ?
Any close encounters with the bears ?

We did not fish at all while we were hunting, we chartered a boat when we got back to Kodiak. We never saw any of the big Brownies but my buddy did have one of his deer stolen by one!! It freaked us out Lungpopper!

Congrats on braving the elements and scoring! Is that an electric fence around your campsite?

Congrats on an epic hunt trip!
If you would have stayed there after the fishing trip you would have lured those bears in with the fish smell on your hunting clothes.

How did the goal zero work in that weather? What is up with the bag of water? Filtration?

Xjon the goal zero worked well enough even though we had no sun. The bag of water is "The Base Camp" which allows you to filter large volume of water and is gravity fed as opposed to a pump. No trees around so we had to use my tri pod as a stand.

No way I could sleep with that serious of a threat so close. Well maybe with 50 mg of Ambien.

Hahaaa WaterDawg, I feel you brother but like Ed F told me it's not the Bears that will kill you it's the weather! I spoke to Jesus a few times while on that island! The weather was brutal! The winds broke every pole in my Marmont tent! Good gear is must, you cannot spare on that!
