I heard (i think from the meateater podcast) that they chose to leave liquor stores open because they didn't want alcoholics being forced into a recovery where they may need to take up medical resources and that they would plan on addressing that issue after the pandemic passes.

That was some of the biggest horsesh#t I heard during the quarantine. They don't care about a couple of people going through detox. I think it was more about keeping people tipsy and non-complaining.

My wife works at a recovery center (rehab) and they lost business because people were afraid to check in. They didn’t shut down though
