All I have to say is, it must be one hell of a honey hole to keep coming back to Ca. Actually, based on reports from previous trips, I think I know the answer.

Was in Sierras hiking and fishing a couple weeks ago. Water levels in backcountry lakes unbelievable low. But what is shocking is this photo, gas in Lee Vining. Photo ain't doctored.

Anyone who hunts or fishes in the Henshaw area should check out the gas at the La Jolla Reservation. I live in Fallbrook and go to this area about once per week. Got gas there on Tuesday, 3.69 a gallon, about 65 cents less than in Fallbrook. Figure I save about 7 bucks per week, 350 bucks per year, 5 years=brand new Benelli, since that's what you pros rave about. Don't want to be seen in a duck blind shooting my old Weatherby or Win Model 12.

I'm all over doves, my Hatchetman. Don't know where to hunt them, but you old pros will help me, I'm sure. My Old Man was base commander at the NAF in Seely, CA, when I was in high school, back in the Jurassic Period. Cut my teeth on doves!! Had an old Model 12 back then, handloaded with a Lee Loader, pedaled my bike out to the farms a couple miles from where I lived and shot doves. God-Aw-Mighty, I loved those after school hunts!! I'd bring home a dozen doves, toothpick two breast halves with a jalapeno and some bacon and cheese in between, stick it on the BBQ, and I was in heaven. Was a different world back then. [Ever notice how Old Farts say that so often? Ask ilovesprig [he's exactly my age, give or take a month or two]---it's true, a different world, certainly for hunters.]
