So I typically get two days to hunt, one being Monday. I rarely see anything mondays though. Today I attribute that partially to heat, but generally I chock it up to the pressure on weekends. We have some hikers, mtn bikers, and judging from the trail of beer cans and tags from brand new scent lock clothing there are now hunters. I am hoping someone can tell me my theory is good or maybe what else could cause the monday slump. Also, in my hunting area I noticed today that some of the small deer trails that cross my trail are massive and impossible to miss, like a bear ran through. Would increased deer traffic do this, or am I seeing evidence of a hunter. To add to that, is it worth trying to follow small deer trails through the heavy(very heavy and steep) brush? There is a large meadow I hunt, but its the only meadow.

Most of the time if you get off the road or trail 1/2 mile or more the beer cans and boot prints disappear. Find an area that's hard to get to and most of the time you will be alone.

That actually does describe my area. The beer cans stopped before my hunting area, but the light deer trails suddenly getting bigger worried me.

on my trail cams i do not see a drop in clicks on monday after a hunting weekend. Even on the high traffic cams that are danger close to roads and marked trails.

big deer trails are coyote highways! or getting used as mtn bike trails.

what general area are you playing in?

You should try thursday friday hunts. Might be a tad better.

Sudden size increase in multiple small trails (esp this time of year)- hunter activity. Did you look at prints?

Following small deer trails expecting to find deer there is hopeless unless you are a ninja. Better to find where they converge and set up an ambush. Even better if you can be far from the meadow to get a wider view (peak/ hilltop) that way you're not spooking the whole meadow.

Friday is the other day I can go. I went the day befor the opener and, go figure, had a few bucks just lined up like a shooting gallery. Last fri they stayed in cover so I didnt get a good shot, ended up spooking them trying to get a better position. This meadow is big convergentvpoint. Pretty much any deer trail leads here. Oh and I couldnt tell if there were boot tracks in the trails, its all leafs.

This is a tough one. And don't have any good suggestions. Are you using game cameras. Good bet if those trails are being beat to death by humans. Maybe it's better to pull up stakes. Look for better prospect's. Or do all the good advice given. I have seen areas powdered with tracks. Then when human pressure start. Poof disappeared.

Don’t assume deer don’t drink beer. Especially during drought years. Secondly, if by north CNF you mean as far north as the San Mateo/Tenaja area, drop me a pm I might have some intel for you.

It's funny my partner's and my game cameras would catch pictures of deer out in the middle of the week out during the day . And only at night during the week ends. In a high pressure area. Very frustrating.

Well the monday blues are now the friday blues. Didnt see a single deer which is unusual. Thinking its the heat or my morning pressure. Im gonna lay off the deer monday and do quial instead. Then go for an evening hunt.
